Gnolls guard the rock spires that rise from the ground at the start of The Expanse. Most of them come from the settlement called East Shae. The gnolls claim this settlement is located in the middle of the Great Claw. They have previously spoken to explorers to send word of their great land to the humans living to the east. Their message came with warnings to stay out of The Expanse until their beloved deity awakens and shows itself to the whole world.
